Relaxing with Relaxin
First off, what is relaxin? Relaxin is a hormone produced by a pregnant female which effects the ligaments and tendons of the females body in preparation for the birth of the child. With the main purpose being to let the pelvis open enough for the child to pass, then close back up after the process is complete. Without relaxin the pelvis would open up and stay open due to torn pelvis ligaments and tendons.
However, relaxin effects not just the pelvis but all the ligaments and tendons in the body, therefore pregnant females have a better chance at becoming subluxated (misaligned) due to the laxativity of the ligaments and tendons used to hold their joints into alignment with an end result being pain. 50 to 70 percent of pregnant women experience back pain during their pregnancy. Relaxin is produced soon after first conception and continues up to 6 months after breast feeding is finished.
Pregnant females are great candidates for chiropractic care because it is a safe and effective method to help alleviate pain without pain medication.
